Celebrating Trustees Week 2025

This week, from 3rd to 7th November 2025, the Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector across the UK is coming together to mark Trustees Week. It is a vital moment to celebrate and acknowledge the immense contribution of the nearly one million trustees who dedicate their time, commitment, and effort to help charities and community groups thrive.

Trustees are the unsung heroes of the sector. They are the driving force behind good governance, setting the strategic direction, ensuring financial stability, and upholding the mission of their organisations. In Essex, as in the rest of the country, our trustees provide essential oversight and expertise, often voluntarily, ensuring that our local community services remain strong, effective, and compliant.

This year’s Trustees Week is focused on celebrating their achievements, providing support, and inspiring the next generation of leadership. It’s an opportunity for boards, staff, and beneficiaries to pause and offer a sincere thank you to the individuals steering their organisations through complex and challenging times.

For current and aspiring trustees, the week offers a wealth of opportunities to connect with peers, share experiences, and develop crucial skills. Resources, events, training sessions, and practical guides are available to help boards refresh their knowledge and strengthen their governance practices.

Get Involved and Show Your Gratitude

Whether you are a long-standing trustee, a staff member working with a board, or someone considering taking on a trustee role, we encourage you to get involved this week:

  1. Say Thank You: Take a moment to formally thank your board members. A simple message of recognition goes a long way.
  2. Upskill and Connect: Explore the training and guidance available to refresh your governance knowledge and connect with the wider trustee community.
  3. Explore the Role: If you have professional skills and a passion for your community, consider becoming a trustee. New perspectives are vital for diverse and resilient leadership.
