Did you know that 8 in 10 trustees are so positive about their experience that they would recommend the role to others?
A new, comprehensive study from the Charity Commission and Pro Bono Economics is shedding light on what motivates trustees and the evolving face of charity boards. The findings are “immensely positive,” showing that trusteeship offers something for everyone.
For younger trustees, it’s a launchpad for career development. For older trustees, it’s a way to give back to a cause they care about. The research also reveals a promising trend: a move toward gender parity, with 43% of trustees now female, up from 36% in 2017.
While the future of trusteeship is bright, the research also highlights areas for growth. Many boards could benefit from new skills in legal, finance, marketing, and anti-fraud measures. This research is the first step in helping the sector understand how to engage a wider range of talent and build stronger, more resilient boards.
